It's the little things

One of my good friends recently received a gift. A substantial gift, something they hadn't expected and yet something they had dreamed about.  That's what friends do.  They help each other out when they can. Not for what they may receive in return, but simply because they could.
Some people say you can't put a price on friendship.  I disagree. Some friendships I have had over the years, have ended based on other things, but in the end there was also- money. How much has been loaned out or spent on others- that's the cost of how much they valued my friendship. I view those people as whore$. My payment is for nothing more than their service of screwing me over and for them to go away.

Some friends you never loan anything, love, thoughts or even a life preserver as they go under. If you were to throw them a bone now and then, you would honestly aim for their head.  Others you'd give them a vital organ if they needed it.

My good friend and I were discussing this.  There are friends that you know you can  call at 3 am for bail money. Others who would be sitting next to you in the cell thinking- Totally Worth It! or I would do it all over again! for whatever landed you two in trouble.

These are the types of friends who can tell you in all blunt honesty- You are fucking up! When they do- you aren't mad at all, instead you are grateful! Maybe they just saved you from making a big mistake in life.  They don't say it by trying to put you down, certainly not to hurt your feelings and because it is coming from them, you aren't really at all upset by it either.  You may actually be grateful that someone had the nerve to actually say or do something to stop the train wreck.

From there, it's up to us to return the favor.  It is up to us to be the kind of friend a friend would like to have.  Even then we will still make mistakes, but our good friends will be there to catch us, just like we would be there for them.

  1. I find that the friend who seems to be the center of your world sometimes is there but the true friend comes out of the shadows and steps up when needed and its never the one you thought.

    Exactly!
A dear friendf and I were talking on the weekend , she was saying that over the years we have grown distant for a while but always come back together . She was in effect trying to apologise for her part in that.I just hugged her and said "I always knew where you were girl, right here in my heart" that is the kind of friend I hold on to the ones that may wander away physically for a time ,but never leave your heart

  4. Queen Sized- I think we all have a friend or two like that. And when they step forward to surprise you, you never would have expected it.

BlackLOB- or sitting next to you in jail... like I said in the post. Hahaha

Fern Valley- have a friend like that too. A few of them actually. Sometimes drifting is good. Gives you new things and adventures to talk about.

All I am going to say is, I am sometimes a very good friend and I am sometimes not the friend you should have.
Pretty sure we would be sitting side by side going man totally worth it!
I have a saying, I do not want to be the secret keeper anymore. That said, there are still a few people in the world that I wouldn't even ask why if they asked me to bring a shovel.lol
